The European Fair Play Movement (EFPM) has officially opened the call for nominations for the European Fair Play / European Fair Play Movement Awards 2025/2026.
These prestigious awards recognize outstanding examples of fair play, ethical conduct, and the promotion of sporting values in sport and society.
Nominations are welcome from individuals, organizations, institutions, and initiatives that have demonstrated an exceptional commitment to the principles of fair play.

Panathlon International und Centro Caribe Sports: Unterzeichnung der Absichtserklärung am 25. Juli“
Der internationale Präsident von Panathlon International, Giorgio Chinellato, ist in der Dominikanischen Republik eingetroffen, wo er vom Präsidenten des neuen Panathlon-Clubs Santo Domingo, Domingo Solano, mit großer Begeisterung empfangen wurde.
Der Besuch bietet eine wichtige Gelegenheit, die Mitglieder zu treffen, die Beziehungen zur lokalen Panathlon-Gemeinschaft zu festigen und Panathleten aus anderen Ländern zu treffen. Präsident Chinellato wurde ausserdem eingeladen, an der Eröffnungsfeier und den damit Verbundenen Veran staltungen teilzunehmen, einer der renommiertesten Sportveranstaltungen des Kontinents.
Die vom Internationalen Olympischen Komitee als älteste regionale Multisportveranstaltung anerkannten Zentralamerikanischen und Karibischen Spiele werden bei ihrer Ausgabe 2026 in Santo Domingo über 6.000 Athleten aus 37 Ländern zusammenbringen. Ein Ereignis von grosser internationaler Bedeutung, das Panathlon International eine wichtige Gelegenheit bieten wird, seine Präsenz im karibischen Raum zu stärken und die Werte von Fairplay, Ethik und Respekt durch den Sport zu fördern.
Der Höhepunkt der Mission wird am 25. Juli sein, wenn der internationale Präsident auf Initiative von Präsident Solano eine Absichtserklärung mit Centro Caribe Sports unterzeichnen wird, um über den Club bei den Zentralamerikanischen und Karibischen Spielen präsent zu sein und die Verbreitung der Sportkultur und des Fairplay aktiv zu fördern.
Das Thema „Hikikomori“ erreicht das Europäische Parlament
Im Anschluss an die im September 2025 eingeleiteten Diskussionen hat Panathlon International dazu beigetragen, die europäischen Institutionen auf das Phänomen „Hikikomori“ aufmerksam zu machen, insbesondere im Hinblick auf die Prävention von psychischen Belastungen und sozialer Isolation bei jungen Menschen.
Am Mittwoch, dem 9. September, findet von 15:00 bis 17:00 Uhr im Europäischen Parlament in Brüssel eine Podiumsdiskussion mit dem Titel **„Hikikomori: Europäische Perspektiven zu Maßnahmen zur Prävention des Phänomens und bewährte Praktiken aus Italien“** statt, die auf Initiative der Europaabgeordneten Mariateresa Vivaldini organisiert wird.
Zu den Rednern der Veranstaltung zählen unter anderem der Präsident von Panathlon International, Giorgio Chinellato, sowie das internationale Vorstandsmitglied Fabiano Gino Maria Gerevini, der die internationale Arbeitsgruppe zum Hikikomori-Syndrom leitet.
Panathlon International ist stolz darauf, zur Erreichung dieses wichtigen Meilensteins beigetragen zu haben, der das Ergebnis seiner engagierten Bemühungen ist, den Dialog zu fördern und das Bewusstsein der Institutionen für ein Thema von wachsender gesellschaftlicher Bedeutung zu schärfen.
IPACS publishes new fact sheet on artificial intelligence and corruption in sport
IPACS has published the Fact Sheet on Artificial Intelligence and Corruption in Sport, the first major output of the new Working Group dedicated to AI.
The publication has been added to the IPACS Tool Library and marks the launch of a new section dedicated to artificial intelligence, which will also host future resources on the topic.
The new Fact Sheet on artificial intelligence reaffirms IPACS’s role as an international benchmark for the development of tools to support integrity in sport. This is a path that Panathlon International follows and supports wholeheartedly, by participating in its initiatives and promoting a culture of good governance, transparency, and sporting ethics.
In the coming months, the publication will also be available in French and Spanish. The topic of artificial intelligence will also be explored in greater depth during the 9th IPACS Annual General Conference, scheduled for 2 October 2026
IOC provisionally lifts suspension of Russian Olympic Committee – Recommendations to IFs with regard to Russian athletes’ participation no longer applicable
The International Olympic Committee (IOC) Executive Board (EB) has provisionally lifted the suspension of the Russian Olympic Committee (ROC) that had been in effect since 12 October 2023. The decision was taken following a thorough analysis by the IOC’s Legal Affairs Commission, considering that the ROC no longer includes as its members any regional sports organisations in territories falling under the jurisdiction of the National Olympic Committee (NOC) of Ukraine. In addition, the ROC confirmed that it does not, and will not, conduct any activities in these territories. The IOC EB will continue to closely monitor the situation relating to any ROC activities in those territories, and reserves the right to take any further measures if deemed necessary.
With the qualification period for both the LA28 Olympic Games and the Dolomiti Valtellina 2028 Winter Youth Olympic Games having started, and the need to offer equal access to these competitions to all athletes, the IOC EB decided that its recommended conditions of participation for International Federations (IFs) and international sports event organisers of 28 February 2022 and 28 March 2023 as they relate to Russian athletes and teams, including the protective measures, are no longer applicable.
In accordance with the Olympic Charter, and as applicable to all NOCs in general when selecting the athletes participating in the Olympic Games, the ROC must ensure that Russian athletes’ “selection [for the Olympic Games] shall be based not only on their sports performance, but also on their ability to serve as role models who respect, uphold and promote a peaceful society through sport as set forth in the Olympic Charter.” (Bye-law 2.1 to Rules 27 and 28).
YOULEAD: Transnational Project Meeting of European-Funded Project Concludes in Podgorica
The Transnational Project Meeting (TPM) of the Erasmus+ project YOULEAD, coordinated by Panathlon International, commenced on 23 June and concluded on 24 June in Podgorica, Montenegro. The two-day meeting brought together project partners to review the progress achieved so far and prepare the next phase of activities aimed at strengthening youth participation in sport governance.
During the first day of the meeting, partners analysed and shared the findings of the National Reports conducted in their respective countries. This work enabled the identification of common trends, good practices and valuable insights to support the next operational phases of the project. The discussions were further enriched by a review of the previously prepared literature review and recommendations, providing a solid evidence base for the project’s future actions.
The Steering Committee also convened on 23 June to review the overall progress of the project, assess the activities already implemented and discuss the forthcoming actions foreseen in the work plan.
The second day focused on a roundtable discussion that brought together a distinguished panel of experts from the fields of sport, education, youth policy and integrity. The session provided Consortium Partners with an opportunity to discuss their findings and present the initial concepts for the educational programme to be developed under Work Package 3. The exchange of experiences, perspectives and recommendations offered valuable insights that will contribute to the design and delivery of the project’s educational activities and outputs.
The roundtable featured Igor Vušurović, Olympic gold medallist from Sydney 2000, former Director responsible for State Administration for Sport and former Secretary General of the National Olympic Committee of Montenegro; Marija Jovanović, renowned Montenegrin athlete and Olympic silver medallist from London 2012; Neda Ojdanić, Director of the Anti-Doping Commission of Montenegro; Miloš Ranitović, Secretary General of the Paralympic Committee of Montenegro; Prof. Dr. Jovan Gardašević, Dean of the Faculty for Sport and Physical Education at the University of Montenegro; Demir Purović, Administrator of the Podgorica Youth Centre; and Nikoleta Bulatović, former tennis player, coach and sports manager.

The Podgorica TPM reaffirmed the partners’ shared commitment to promoting more inclusive, informed and participatory pathways for young people within the world of sport and marked an important step towards the implementation of Work Package 3.

MindFit VR: Moving Forward
At the end of the training activities, the second transnational project meeting (TPM) of the MindFit VR project took place, providing an important opportunity for partners to review the progress achieved so far and plan the next stages of the project.
Representing Panathlon International were Fabio Figueiras, Project Coordinator, and Debora Quercioli from the General Secretariat, who provided support for the project activities.
During the meeting, several operational issues were discussed, including the completion of the curriculum translations into the different languages, the development of the toolkit, and the planning of upcoming dissemination activities. The partners also agreed on the timeline for the next phases, reaffirming their shared commitment to the project's objectives.
The TPM followed on from an intensive international training programme held in Izmir, attended by four Panathletes: Teresa Rocha from Portugal; Ilse Vanhoorelbeke from Belgium; Rebecca Ripanti from Italy; and Tunde Stift from Hungary.
Having completed the training, they will now begin planning and implementing dissemination activities within their respective countries.

Der 23. Internationale Kongress von Panathlon International in Gent: 75 Jahre Einheit durch Sport
In Gent, Belgien, ging der 23. Internationale Kongress von Panathlon International zu Ende, der unter dem Motto „Panathlon International: 75 Years Inspiring Unity Through Sport“ stand. Eine Veranstaltung von großer institutioneller und kultureller Bedeutung, die Teil der Feierlichkeiten zum 75-jährigen Bestehen der Bewegung war und Vertreter von Panathlon, internationale Referenten, Experten, junge Führungskräfte und Akteure aus der Welt des Sports zusammenbrachte.
Der Kongress wurde vom internationalen Präsidenten Giorgio Chinellato und vom Präsidenten der CCRE, Antonio Carlos Bramante, eröffnet, die ein interessantes Interview über die Ursprünge der Bewegung, ihre Rolle in der Gegenwart und die Herausforderungen, die sie in der Zukunft erwarten, führten.
Zwei intensive Arbeitstage stellten die Rolle des Sports als Instrument des Dialogs, der Zusammenarbeit, der Bildung, der Integrität, der Governance und des sozialen Zusammenhalts in den Mittelpunkt der Debatte. In der heutigen Welt steht Sport nämlich nicht mehr nur für Wettkampf, Ergebnisse oder Medaillen, sondern etabliert sich zunehmend als universelle Sprache, die Grenzen, Kulturen und Zugehörigkeiten überwinden und Begegnungsmöglichkeiten schaffen kann, auch dort, wo der institutionelle Dialog auf größere Schwierigkeiten stößt.
Der Kongress wurde mit einer Begrüßung durch den internationalen Präsidenten Giorgio Chinellato eröffnet und setzte sich mit der Eröffnungsrede von Prof. Thierry Zintz fort, die sich der Sportdiplomatie und der Fähigkeit des Sports widmete, Verständnis, Zusammenarbeit und positive Beziehungen zwischen Völkern und Gemeinschaften zu fördern.
An der ersten Podiumsdiskussion, moderiert von Antonio Carlos Bramante, Präsident der Kommission für Kultur, Forschung und Bildung von Panathlon International, nahmen Maria Beatriz Rocha Ferreira, Vizepräsidentin der ICSSPE, Fahmida Faiza, Expertin für Sportdiplomatie, und Guillermo González López, Präsident des Panathlon Club Colombia, teil. Die Beiträge hoben den Beitrag von Panathlon International zur Sportdiplomatie durch die Förderung der positiven Werte des Sports hervor.
Besondere Aufmerksamkeit galt auch der jungen Generation, mit der Podiumsdiskussion „Youth Participation in Sport Governance: from Principles to Practices“. An der Diskussion nahmen Fabio Figueiras, Mitglied der CCRE von Panathlon International, Tiago Guilherme von ENGSO Youth, Matilda Tommasi, Präsidentin des Panathlon Junior Trieste Muggia und Mitglied der CCRE von Panathlon International, sowie Berber Swart, IOC Young Leader, teil. Die Debatte unterstrich, wie wichtig es ist, junge Menschen nicht nur als Protagonisten des Sports, sondern auch als aktive Akteure beim Aufbau der Governance und der Zukunft des Sports zu fördern.
Das Thema Fairplay und bewährte Praktiken wurde zudem durch die internationale Ausstellung „Best Practices Showcase“ hervorgehoben, die von Alina Baranova, Sander Renson und dem Generalsekretariat kuratiert wurde und 47 herausragende Projekte präsentierte, die von Panathlon-Clubs aus aller Welt gefördert wurden. Der zweite Tag des Kongresses war dem Thema „Shaping the Game: Europe’s Role in the Future of Sport“ gewidmet. Nach der Eröffnung der Tagung sprachen Stanislas Frossard, Sportdirektor des Europarats, Chiel Warners, Technischer Direktor des Niederländischen Leichtathletikverbands, und Georg Häusler, Direktor der GD EAC Sport der Europäischen Kommission.
Viel Raum wurde den Diskussionsrunden über Integrität im Sport und gute Sport-Governance aus europäischer Perspektive eingeräumt. An der von Dr. Cleo Schyvinck moderierten Podiumsdiskussion zum Thema Integrität nahmen Chiel Warners, Guy Goudesone und Michele Colucci teil. An der von Georg Häusler eingeleiteten und von Philippe Vlaemminck moderierten Podiumsdiskussion zum Thema gute Governance beteiligten sich Prof. Bram Constandt, Walter De Beauvesier Watson und Sven Demeulemeester.
Fabio Figueiras sprach in seiner Eigenschaft als Compliance & Regulatory Manager von KPMG Schweiz, bevor Antonio Carlos Bramante die Schlussworte übernahm und die Kongressarbeiten mit der Betonung des Wertes des Austauschs sowie der Bedeutung der weiteren Stärkung der kulturellen und erzieherischen Rolle von Panathlon International abschloss.
Der Kongress in Gent bekräftigte nachdrücklich die Mission von Panathlon International: einen Sport zu fördern, der erzieht, verbindet, inspiriert und zum Aufbau einer gerechteren, respektvolleren und solidarischeren Gesellschaft beiträgt. Anlässlich des 75-jährigen Bestehens bekräftigt die Bewegung ihr Engagement für Ethik, Sportkultur, Integrität, Fairplay und die aktive Beteiligung der neuen Generationen.
In Gent fand die erste Verleihung des Internationalen Graf-Jacques-Rogge-Preises statt
Zum Abschluss des 23. Internationalen Kongresses von Panathlon International wurden die Panathleten am Nachmittag des 6. Juni eingeladen, der ersten Verleihung des Internationalen Graf-Jacques-Rogge-Preises beizuwohnen, der vom belgischen Distrikt von Panathlon International ins Leben gerufen und gefördert wurde.
Die Zeremonie fand in der prächtigen Kulisse des Rathauses von Gent statt, in Anwesenheit wichtiger Persönlichkeiten und Vertreter von Institutionen, darunter Seine Königliche Hoheit Prinz Laurent und Prinzessin Louise von Belgien, Anne Bovyn, die Ehefrau des verstorbenen Jacques Rogge.
Der Preis, der ins Leben gerufen wurde, um das Vermächtnis von Graf Jacques Rogge, dem ehemaligen Präsidenten des Internationalen Olympischen Komitees von 2001 bis 2013, zu würdigen, soll Projekte auszeichnen, die durch Sport und Bildung Inklusion, Vielfalt, die Entwicklung junger Menschen und den sozialen Zusammenhalt fördern.
Nach einem strengen Auswahlverfahren wurde die erste Auszeichnung an Generations For Peace verliehen, eine in Jordanien ansässige Nichtregierungsorganisation, die Sport, Jugendführung und Dialog als Instrumente nutzt, um Frieden zu stiften, gegenseitiges Verständnis zu fördern und den sozialen Zusammenhalt zu stärken.
Die prestigeträchtige Auszeichnung wurde Seiner Königlichen Hoheit Prinz Feisal Al Hussein von Jordanien, dem Gründer und Präsidenten von Generations For Peace, überreicht, der in Begleitung einer Delegation der Organisation persönlich nach Gent gereist war.
Die Verleihung des Preises war ein bedeutender Moment und lieferte ein eindrucksvolles Beispiel dafür, wie Sport als Katalysator für Zusammenhalt, Dialog, Fairplay und menschliche Entwicklung wirken kann.
Die Auszeichnung war zudem eine herzliche Hommage an Jacques Rogge, dessen Engagement für den Sport, die Bildung und die Förderung der jungen Generation die internationale Sportwelt weiterhin inspiriert. Seine Vision, die auch in der Gründung der Olympischen Jugendspiele Gestalt annahm, ist auch heute noch von außerordentlicher Aktualität und spiegelt die während des Kongresses in Gent gefeierten Werte voll und ganz wider.
Der Präsident von PI, Giorgio Chinellato, brachte zu Beginn der Zeremonie die Glückwünsche von ganz Panathlon International an Generations For Peace zum Ausdruck und bekräftigte seine Wertschätzung gegenüber dem Distrikt Belgien für die Förderung einer Initiative von hohem ethischem und symbolischem Wert, die voll und ganz im Einklang mit der panathletischen Mission steht, den Sport als Instrument für Bildung, Inklusion, Frieden und das Wachstum der neuen Generationen zu fördern.
