Year 2017

•  The year opens with an appeal by newly elected President Pierre Zappelli to be close to the IOC after the terrible year 2016 that saw top sport poisoned by serious scandals with legal consequences. For these reasons, the work that PI can do to safeguard and promote the ideal values of sport is of great importance (Magazine no. 1/2017, editorial by President Zappelli). links

• 18 February 2017 - Brussels - final meeting for the establishment of the 'Brussels Antenna', work begun in 2012 with the late Vic De Donder,

• 22 February 2017 - Lausanne - The Honorary Member of P.I., Jean Presset, "Fair Play champion", passes away. He was the initiator of the Fair Play Charter first disseminated in Switzerland and then adopted by P.I. Despite his long illness, he followed with interest the activities of P.I., of which he had also been President of the Cultural Commission (see his remembrance in Magazine no. 3/2017, pg.13). links

• 8 - 9 March 2017 - Malta - Panathlon International is present in Malta on the occasion of the EU Sport Forum.  The President of District Belgium Thierry Zintz, Member of the Scientific and Cultural Commission of P.I. attended the event.

• 8 April 2017 - Reggio Emilia - the International Forum dedicated to the 'Charter of Parental Duties in Sport' is held. Among the speakers were Pierre Zappelli (International President), Paul Standaert (International Board Member), Julie Vollertsen (volleyball player and Olympic silver medalist with the USA in 1984), Leopoldo Melli (President of the Sport Reggio Emilia Foundation) and Ario Federici (Professor at the University of Urbino). It emerges that the Charter is an original and indispensable tool for the orientation of those parents who have understood the importance of sports culture.

• 12 and 13 May - Rapallo - Meeting of the District Presidents' Committee.  At the same time, the winning works of the "Antwerp University and Panathlon Drawing Contest" and the "International Graphic Competition of  P.I. - Domenico Chiesa" are exhibited. Link to the final resolution 

• 14 August 2017 - São Paulo (Brazil) - Henrique Nicolini, Honorary Member of P.I., the father of Brazilian Panathlon, leaves us. Deep condolences from the Panathletic world, which knew him well for his assiduous and indefatigable commitment to spreading Panathletic ideals. Link magazine 3/2017

•  27 September 2017 - Como - Antonio Spallino, the last Honorary Member of P.I. passed away. 2017 deprived the P.I. of its three panathletic champions: Jean Presset died in February, Henrique Nicolini in August. Before them, the only Honorary Member of  P.I. had been Domenico Chiesa, who also boasted the title of Co-Founder of P.I. Magazine no. 3/2017 link

• 5 October 2017 - President Zappelli informs clubs of the launch of the 'Panathlon Friendly Games' project. The circular states verbatim: "The idea of this (...) project was born from the observation of the results obtained from two important events organised by the Clubs: the Panathlon Family Games of the PC Lausanne and the Panathliadi of the PC Venice. The former is mainly aimed at introducing young people and their families to the practice of a sport, the latter combines game and sport and is aimed at young people in schools." The P.I. pledges to support the clubs that will bring the project to life: "Starting from these two events, we have therefore conceived a simplified model that is accessible to all Clubs called 'Panathlon Friendly Games. We will support the Clubs that will organise it with material aid, modest but concrete, and we will award the best achievements

• 19 - 20 October 2017 - Venice - award ceremony of the XV International Competition of Graphic Arts of the P.I. Domenico Chiesa Foundation in the presence of the International President Pierre Zappelli, during the Panathlon Day kermesse at the Goldoni Theatre, hosted by the President of the Club Luca Ginetto.

•26 - 28 October 2017 - In Recife (Brazil) the 12th Pan-American Congress was held on the theme "Women and sport in the Americas". From that Congress would have started the proposal, born by the District Brazil, to establish the Panathlon Day to be celebrated on 12 June each year to commemorate the birth of Panathlon.

• 28 October 2017 - Lausanne - The 6th IOC Olympic Summit opens up on e-sports by defining them as a sporting activity.

• November 2017 - the International Board announces the launch of the project "Panathlon International Ethical Plaques" already experimented in Area 6 Toscana and District Italy. The Clubs that make the request will obtain plaques, containing the "Charter of Children's Rights" and the "Charter of Parental Duties in Sport", to be affixed in public places and accessible to users (gyms-playgrounds-footpaths-parks etc.) as an instrument of dissemination of IPI Charters and promotion of the Ethical values of our Association.
